In Case of Emergency

If you have an emergency, dial 9-1-1 and a dispatcher will assist you. Please remain calm, speak as clearly as possible, and tell the dispatcher:

  • Where is the emergency?
    Your address, and telephone number; this allows the dispatcher to verify the information on the screen. Any other information that could be helpful in locating you quickly. If not at home look for street signs & landmarks.

  • What is the emergency?
    Is there a fire? Are you witnessing a crime in progress?

  • Who?
    Clearly tell us Who you are so that we can help you.

 

 

Goal

It is our goal to maintain & upgrade existing 911 dispatch equipment to the latest Technological advances for our Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to enable us to serve the citizens of Chester County with the best 911 system available.

A Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) is a call center responsible for answering 911 calls for police, fire, or emergency medical service.  A PSAP facility runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and trained telecommunicators dispatch emergency services or transfer 911 calls to various public and private safety agencies.


 

Addressing

The 9-1-1 Administrative Office is the sole addressing authority for Chester County. The Office also maintains the NG911 Geodatabase for Chester County which is a comprehensive dataset that contains the Site & Structure Address Points, Road Centerlines & Emergency Service Zones. If you need to have a 911 address assigned, please call the office at (731) 989-2119 Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This should be the first step in the process before building or putting a structure on a piece of property within Chester County. 

 

 

Overview

When you dial 9-1-1 from a landline phone, your address appears on the screen in front of the dispatcher. An incorrect address can delay emergency response time, so a correct address is vital information. But with the emergence of different technologies, cell phone and VoIP, there are some distinctions to understand when calling from each. An easy way to remember what to tell the 9-1-1 operator is to remember the Where, What, Who of 9-1-1 .

To improve emergency response time, please post the correct address on your mailbox or somewhere in front of your home where it can be easily viewed by an emergency responder.
